Surah Al Fatihah , Choices , Dos and Don’ts

Today we will study the word وَلَا from Verse # 07 of Chapter # 01 – Surat Al Fateh. Translation and Meaning of وَلَا in English Arabic Terms Dictionary is [not even].

غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوْبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّاۗلِّيْنَ

not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.

The word وَلَا is used in the Holy Qur’an on 658 occasions in various chapters .

The first placement of the word وَلَا is in Chapter # 01, Verse # 07 in which Allah Subhan O Talah describes the choices one should make in his life. It’s not important what you should do, the critical question is that what you should not do in your life.

Almighty Allah who is the ultimate source of knowledge encapsulated the complex messages in a few expressions, words, and sentences. The Holy Qur’an is the preeminent source of guidance. Each verse of the Holy Qur’an has an ocean of wisdom. All the best-seller writers put extra energy into the first few chapters of their books. Likewise, The best writer “Allah Subhan O Talah”, his most beloved Prophet, “Hazrat Muhammad (SAW)” and his book “The Holy Qur’an” have marvelous wisdom. The First Chapter of The Holy Quran is a summery wrap up in seven verse.

Elif Shafak in his gorgeous, jeweled, and luxurious book, “The Forty Rules of Love ” shared a conversation between Shams of Tabriz and a Judge. Shams of Tabriz quoted one of his forty rules , ” Each and every reader comprehends the Holy Qur’an on a different level in tandem with the depth of his understanding . There are four levels of insight . The first level is the outer meaning and it is the one that the majority of the people are content with. Next is the Batini – the inner level. Third , there is the inner of the inner . And the fourth is so deep it cannot be put into-words and is therefore bound to remain indescribable.”

With glinting eyes Shams continued ,”Scholars who focus o the sharia know the outer meaning . Sufis know the inner meaning . Saints know the inner of the inner .And as for the fourth level , that is known only by the Prophets and those closets to God”

I concede I fall in the first category of Holy Qur’an reader. Just know the outer meanings.

The last verse of Al-Fateh is basically divided into two parts غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوْبِ عَلَيْهِمْ is the first part and الضَّاۗلِّيْنَ is the second part . وَلَا is the separator.

غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوْبِ عَلَيْهِمْ

Who are الْمَغْضُوْبِ , the last placement of غَضِبَ is in Chapter # 60 , Verse # 13

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَا تَتَوَلَّوْا قَوْمًا غَضِبَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِمْ قَدْ يَىِٕسُوْا مِنَ الْاٰخِرَةِ كَمَا يَىِٕسَ الْكُفَّارُ مِنْ اَصْحٰبِ الْقُبُوْر

O believers! Do not ally yourselves with a people Allah is displeased with. They already have no hope for the Hereafter, just like the disbelievers lying in [their] graves.


And who are الضَّاۗلِّيْنَ , the last placement of تَضْلِيْلٍ is in Chapter # 105 , Verse # 02 .

اَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِيْ تَضْلِيْلٍ

Allah Subhan O Talah is sharing with us an historical event prior to Islam. He is painting the complete event. By Addressing Rasool Allah(SAW) .”Have you not seen [O Prophet] how your Lord dealt with the Army of the Elephant?

He just smashed them with the flocks of birds and left them like chewed up straw.

وَلَآ اَنْتُمْ عٰبِدُوْنَ مَآ اَعْبُدُ

The last placement of the word وَلَآ is in Chapter # 109, Verse 05 . What choice we should make in our life . The last placement of وَلَآ is really subtle .Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) is addressing to the disbelievers that “nor will you ever worship what I worship.”.

Conclusion :

The selection of our choices , alliances , affiliations should strictly based on the directions that Allah Subhan O Talah and His Messenger Rasool Allah (SAW) has defined for us. We should worship Allah Subhan O Talah .Whatever choice, decision, you made in your life, the basic weighing formula is that your choices, your preferences should not contradict with Oneness of Allah and direction stipulated by Rasool Allah (SAW).
