Which group of people are typically better humans – members of a wealthy group or a poor group? Your answer is for sure members of the wealthy group. Money doesn’t make you good or evil. Wealth just makes you more of who you already are. These types of phrases you listen to every day. People will convince you to acquire more wealth, status, and stature.”

An excerpt from Forbes article about the wealth valuation criteria of a person or a company .The criterion is based on a lot of factors however most critical are thousands of SEC documents, court records, probate records and news articles. We took into account all types of assets: stakes in public and private companies, real estate, art, yachts, planes, ranches, vineyards, jewelry, car collections and more. We factored in debt and charitable giving.

While some billionaires provided documentation for their private assets and companies, others were less forthcoming. To value private businesses, we couple revenue or profit estimates with prevailing price-to-sales or price-to-earnings ratios for similar public companies and apply a 10% discount, or more in cases where information is scarce.

Benchmark from Allah Subhan O Talah is opposite how Forbes gauges World’s billionaire’s list. So lets us start with how Allah Subhan O Talah assesses if you are rich or poor.

The first placement of word الْغَنِيُّ is Verse # 263 , Chapter #02 where He mentioned that Kind words and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Self-Sufficient, Most Forbearing. Now, most of us think that it’s an easy task to practice kindness and forgiveness. To be honest with you In practice, it’s a challenging exercise to have a kind conversation and forgiving someone.

We behave in a gentle, polite, and civilized manner with our superiors. However, sorry to say our attitude is not deferential especially if someone is in lower ranks and status.

مَآ اَغْنٰى عَنْهُ مَالُهٗ وَمَا كَسَبَ

اَغْنٰى

Lets us fast forward our discussion and check the last placement of word اَغْنٰى . In the Holy Qur’an Verse # 02 , Chapter # 111 , Allah Subhan O Talah repudiates the whole idea of wealth and riches. He states that “Neither his wealth nor [worldly] gains will benefit him.”

To conclude our discussion we can say that if our charity and support is causing pain, discomfort, and harm to someone then neither our wealth nor our worldly status and position benefit us in this world. Until one should embrace the ultimate truth which is death. Islam does not prohibit wealth and abundance if your wealth accumulation is within the jurisdiction of the Holy Qur’an and aligned with Rasool Allah (SAW) teaching than you are الْغَنِيُّ else May Allah Subhan O Talah shows you right path.
